Seattle's Rainier Valley Teens Star in Broadway Bound's second musical in the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center at Rainier Beach High School

SEATTLE, WA – July 18, 2008 - Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre along with the Seattle Theatre Group (STG) and Seattle Public Schools are proud to announce their summer production of "Fame - The Musical" opening August 8, 2008 and running through August 17, 2008. “Fame - The Musical” is a bittersweet but inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984). Tickets go on sale July 16, 2008 and are $12 at the door, or $10.00 online at: www.ticketwindowonline.com

This year’s show marks the second year of the summer partnership between Broadway Bound, STG, Seattle Public Schools and the residents of the Rainier Valley. Executive Director Marka Jenkins-Waechter says, “After the success of last year’s "Dreamgirls" program, and seeing the transformation of our young actors, it wasn’t an option not to come back!”

Seattle nonprofit Broadway Bound Children's Theatre challenges children to develop their mental, physical, emotional, social and creative potentials through the joy and discipline of live musical theatre. The experience combines a fun and supportive atmosphere while holding actors to professional standards. To that end, Broadway Bound's founder and show director, Jim Nixon work with a team of musicians, choreographers, dancers, assistant directors and stage managers to provide a professional experience with high production values.

Currently in the rehearsal stages, Fame - The Musical features Shaniqua Bodary as Carmen Diaz, who received rave reviews last year for her portrayal of Effie White in Dreamgirls. Marsailles Solomon, who played Jimmy Early in Dreamgirls, returns to the stage playing Tyrone Jackson in "Fame - The Musical."

As stated by Jenkins-Waechter, “Fame - The Musical is an ideal musical for the developing partnership between Seattle Theatre Group, Seattle Public Schools and Broadway Bound. Fame features a school that dedicates itself to the arts and we want to be a part of transforming Rainier Beach High School into the best performing arts school in the country as it was intended to be.” Fame, the 1988 musical theatre production by David De Silva inspired by New York’s High School for the Performing Arts, now known as Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts.
